Course Description:

PRISM offers a comprehensive Western Guitar Course through Trinity College London. These graded exams in Guitar, spanning from Initial to Grade 8, are meticulously designed to align with and respond to the diverse and evolving learning styles of modern guitar education. Course durationThe duration for completing each grade is flexible and personalized, depending on the student’s individual pace, capability and commitment.

Age group: 8 years & above

Class size:

  • Individual Lessons One-on-one private instruction tailored to each student’s pace and goals. Duration: 45 minutes per session
  • Group Classes Collaborative learning environment with up to 8 students per batch with a duration of 45 minutes per session with instructors ensuring individual attention to support every student’s unique progress and learning style.

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop essential guitar skills including fingerstyle and plectrum techniques. 
  • Master basic to advanced chord shapes, strumming patterns, and melodic phrasing
  • Perform pieces across a wide range of genres  
  • Read and interpret standard notation

  • Execute scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, and stylistic techniques relevant to each grade level  
  • Apply jazz and blues scales, modes, and fingerboard navigation

 Assessment/Exam

  • Graded Exams (Initial to Grade 8):
    • Students progress through eight levels, each designed to gradually build technical mastery and musical artistry.
    • Exams assess:
      • Technical proficiency: fingerstyle, plectrum techniques, scales, arpeggios, chord progressions.
      • Musicality: interpretation of dynamics, articulation, and stylistic phrasing.
      • Creativity: improvisation, stylistic interpretation, and personal expression.
      • Performance skills: solo and ensemble playing across classical, contemporary, jazz, blues, and other genres.
      • Musical knowledge: reading standard notation, understanding rhythmic patterns, and applying theory to performance.
  • Exam Components:
    • Performance pieces: Selected repertoire appropriate to each grade.
    • Technical exercises: Scales, arpeggios, chord shapes, and stylistic techniques.
    • Musical understanding: Questions on notation, rhythm, and stylistic interpretation.
    • Creativity tasks: Improvisation or interpretation exercises.
    • Listening & awareness: Ear training and musical comprehension.

Certification

  • Trinity College London Certification:
    • Each grade passed earns an internationally recognized certificate.
    • Exams are regulated by Ofqual (England) and equivalent bodies in Wales and Northern Ireland, ensuring credibility worldwide.
  • UCAS Points (UK university applications):
    • Students passing Grades 6–8 (Theory and Practical) gain UCAS points.
    • These points benefit IGCSE and A-Level students applying to UK universities.
  • Recognition:
